1. What you are buying
Pelorus is free to download and use. Pelorus Unlimited is a one-time purchase that removes the engine limit and unlocks additional features. It is not a subscription, and there are no recurring charges.
The purchase is tied to your Apple Account and works on any device signed into that account. If Family Sharing is enabled for the purchase, it extends to your family group under Apple's rules. Restoring a purchase on a new device is handled by Apple.
2. Search results come from other companies
Results shown in an engine's own card come directly from that search engine. We do not produce, control, rank, edit, or verify them. We are not responsible for their accuracy, their availability, or their content.
Search engines change how they work without notice. A feature that depends on a particular engine may stop working, and we may add, change, or remove supported engines.
2a. Pelorus Unified Search is ours
Unified Search takes the results those engines returned and applies our own processing. It merges duplicates, groups engines that share an index, scores each result by how many independent sources found it and where each placed it, applies any domain rules or filters you have set, and decides the order in which results appear. It may also decline to show a result at all — because you blocked its domain, because a filter you enabled excludes it, or because it fell outside the number of results we retrieve from each engine.
The underlying content still belongs to the third parties who produced it, and we do not verify or endorse any of it. But the selection and the ordering are ours, and they are the product.
We make no warranty that this ordering is correct, complete, neutral, or suited to any particular purpose. It reflects a method — agreement across independent sources — that we believe is useful, not an objective measure of quality, truth, or relevance. Reasonable people would rank the same results differently, and the Explain screen in the app describes exactly how ours works so you can judge it for yourself.
Where your own settings shape the outcome — domain rules, engine weights, filters, which engines you enabled — the result is a product of your configuration as much as our method.
3. AI features
Pelorus offers two ways to generate summaries.
On-device uses Apple's system model, running on your device.
Your own API key sends requests to a provider you choose, using an account you hold with them. You are responsible for that account, for the charges the provider bills you, and for complying with their terms. We are not a party to that relationship and receive nothing from it.
AI output can be wrong. Summaries may misstate, omit, or invent. They are not legal, medical, financial, or professional advice of any kind, and should not be relied on for any decision that matters.
4. What Pelorus is not
Pelorus reduces tracking; it does not make you anonymous. Your internet provider, the websites you visit, and the search engines you use can still see your activity. Nothing in this app is a substitute for a threat model appropriate to your circumstances.
5. Acceptable use
Do not use Pelorus to break the law, to access material you are not permitted to access, or in a way that violates the terms of the search engines or AI providers you connect to it.
6. Changes
We may update Pelorus and these terms. Material changes will be noted in the release notes. Continued use of Pelorus on any device or platform constitutes acceptance of the current terms.
